PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS


The past perfect progressive puts emphasis on the course or duration of an action taking place before a certain time in the past.

Form
■A: He had been talking.

PAST PERFECT TENSE



1) Together with the Simple Past
When two past actions are combined - the first action, which was completed before the second one began, is put into Past Perfect.

Mary had read the book before she watched a film.
After Amy had gone home it started to rain.

Form of the Past Perfect
We form the Past Perfect with had and the past participle (regular verbs: infinitive + -ed; irregular verbs: 3rd column of the table of the irregular verbs)

We use the same form of the auxiliary had every time regardless the subject.

Forming Comparative and Superlative Adjectives




One-syllable adjectives.
Form the comparative and superlative forms of a one-syllable adjective by adding –er for the comparative form and –est for the superlative.

One-Syllable Adjective Comparative Form Superlative Form

Mary is taller than Max.
Mary is the tallest of all the students.
Max is older than John.
Of the three students, Max is the oldest.
My hair is longer than your hair.
Max's story is the longest story I've ever heard.
If the one-syllable adjective ends with an e, just add –r for the comparative form and –st for the superlative form.

If the two-syllable adjectives ends with –y, change the y to i and add –er for the comparative form. For the superlative form change the y to i and add –est.

Should


"Should" is most commonly used to make recommendations or give advice. It can also be used to express obligation as well as expectation.



Examples:
When you go to Berlin, you should visit the palaces in Potsdam. recommendation
You should focus more on your family and less on work. advice
I really should be in the office by 7:00 AM. obligation
By now, they should already be in Dubai. expectation

Must

Must" is most commonly used to express certainty. It can also be used to express necessity or strong recommendation, although native speakers prefer the more flexible form "have to." "Must not" can be used to prohibit actions, but this sounds very severe; speakers prefer to use softer modal verbs such as "should not" or "ought not" to dissuade rather than prohibit.



Examples:
This must be the right address! certainty
Students must pass an entrance examination to study at this school. necessity
You must take some medicine for that cough. strong recommendation
Jenny, you must not play in the street! prohibition

The present perfect




The present perfect tense is a rather important tense in English, but it gives speakers of some languages a difficult time. That is because it uses concepts or ideas that do not exist in those languages. In fact, the structure of the present perfect tense is very simple. The problems come with the use of the tense. In addition, there are some differences in usage between British and American English.

The present perfect is formed like this:

The present perfect is used when the time period has not finished:


I have seen three movies this week.(This week has not finished yet.)


The present perfect is often used when the time is not mentioned:

Pronouns - one, ones


We use one (singular) and ones (plural) to avoid unnecessary repetition.

See those two girls? Helen is the tall one and Jane is the short one.
Which is your car, the red one or the blue one?
My trousers are torn. I need some new ones.
See those two girls. Helen is the one on the left.
Let’s look at the photographs. The ones you took in Paris.

We often use them after Which ... in questions:

You can borrow a book. Which one do you want?
There are lots of books here. Which ones are yours?

The Uses of One
As a determiner, the word one is sometimes used before a proper noun to designate, particularly, this person: "He delivered the package to one Ronald Pepin of Colchester." The article "a" will also function in that position for the same purpose.

Sometimes we use the word one as an adjective, as in "I'll have just one scoop of ice-cream," and we seldom have trouble with that usage. But we also use one as a pronoun, and this is where one becomes surprisingly complex.

Sometimes the pronoun one functions as a numerical expression:

Those are lovely scarves. I think I'll buy one.
One is hardly enough.
One is purple, the other green.
The three brothers get along quite well; in fact they adore one another.
One of the senators will lead the group to the front of the capitol.
The yellow car is fast, but I think the blue one will win.

The Plural of One
As a singular numerical pronoun, we don't have trouble with one: "Those donuts look delicious; I think I'll pick this one." But what if I want two donuts? It is possible, sometimes, to pluralize one:

I really like the chocolate ones.
The ones with chocolate frosting have cream fillings.
Are these the ones you want?
Do you want these ones?

USE:

We use will to express and talk about PROMISES, DECISIONS, PREDICTIONS andto OFFER help.

Promise = I'll never leave you darling!
Prediction= It'll rain later.
Offer= I'll carry the books for you.
Decisions = I will stop smoking.

El futuro con will es bastante sencillo pues todas las "personas" (yo, tu, ella... etc) van con la misma conjugacion.
Lo mas importante de esta lección es que sepan en que situaciones usar el "WILL"
Se usa el "will" cuando expresen una promesa, decisiones, predicciones y ofrecimientos

Promesa: I will always love you
Decisiones: Tomorrow, I will go to the mall and buy a TV.
Ofrecimientos: I will help you with that table.
Prediccion: Maria won't get married.

RECUERDEN que tengan cuidado al traducir. Siempre haganlo entendiendo el fundamento e uso en el ingles.
Hay veces que las traducciones pueden variar pero lo importante es que el uso de una oración se traduzca en el uso de esa oración en una situación similar de otra lengua.

"GOING TO + INFINITIVO".


La forma GOING TO seguida de infinitivo se utiliza:

1) Para expresar la intención de realizar en el futuro alguna acción que ya está decidida.
What are you going to do at the weekend?
¿Qué harás durante el fin de semana?
I'm going to visit a friend near Bogota.
Visitaré (Tengo intenciones de visitar) a un amigo cerca de Bogotá.

2) Para predecir acontecimientos futuros basándose en una evidencia presente. (Estos acontecimientos suelen estar situados en un futuro próximo.)
Look at those clouds. It's going to rain.
Mira esas nubes. Lloverá. (Va a llover.)
Este último uso no debe confundirse con el del tiempo Present Continuous el cual indica una acción que está realizando en el momento en que se la menciona.

Compara ahora estas dos frases:
Going to + infinitivo: I'm going to answer it. (Lo responderé; Voy a responderlo.)
Present continuous: I'm answering it. (Lo estoy respondiendo).


FORMACION DE LA ESTRUCTURA "GOING TO + INFINITIVO".
Esta estructura se construye con las formas del tiempo Present Continuous del verbo go (I'm going, She's going, etc.) más el infinitivo del verbo principal precedido de la partícula to (to visit, to answer, etc.).

Practica un poco leyendo en voz alta estos ejemplos:
I'm going to visit some friends this afternoon.
He's going to watch TV tomorrow.
She's going to leave in ten minutes.
We're going to play tennis at six o'clock.
You're to paint the kitchen on Friday.
They're going to go to the movies next week.

El verbo 'To be' tiene una importancia especial en inglés. Se corresponde a los verbos españoles "ser" y "estar". Dependiendo del sentido de la frase deduciremos de cual de los dos se trata.

I am English / Soy inglés
I am in England / Estoy en Inglaterra

Tiene algunos usos especiales distintos a sus equivalentes españoles.

- Sirve para expresar la edad, en cuyo caso se traduce por 'tener':

Mary is 20 years old / Maria tiene 20 años
I am 21 / Yo tengo 21 años
How old are you? / ¿Cuántos años tienes?

- Para expresar las sensaciones también se emplea el verbo 'to be' y equivale al 'tener' español.

Are you hungry? / ¿Tienes hambre?
He is thirsty / Tiene sed

- También para hablar sobre el tiempo atmosférico. En este caso se traduce por 'hacer'

1) Demonstrative pronouns/adjectives:

Demonstrative Pronouns: substitute nouns that are understood in context and indicate if they are replacing singular or plural nouns and give the location of the object.
Examples:
What’s that? (that se refiere a algo en singular y que se encuentra alejado de la persona)
- That is a book. (That es el sujeto pues va antes del verbo to be)

En estos casos son Demonstrative Pronouns pues renombran a un sustantivo (noun)

Demonstrative Adjectives: these describe nouns and there position. In this case, you need to put a noun after the demonstrative adjectives.
Examples:
Whose is this umbrella? (el sustantivo es “umbrella” y “this” esta describiendo la localización)
- That umbrella is Juan’s. (De igual forma “that” describa la localizacion de el paragua pero umbrella es el sujeto y sustantivo)

En ingles es mas simple que en ingles asi que recomiendo aprender la estructura sin necesidad de traducir pues en espanol hay mas reglas.

Simple Past Tense


El Pasado Simple es un tiempo verbal que se utiliza para describir acciones que han sucedido en un tiempo anterior y que ya han finalizado, por ejemplo:


She cleaned her house. Ella limpió su casa.
I broke the window. Yo rompí la ventana.


Aquí vemos su conjugación que en el español equivale al Pretérito Indefinido. Observa que la estructura de la oración es similar a la del Presente Simple:




Tanto en la forma interrogativa como en negativa se utiliza como auxiliar DID que es la forma pasada del verbo "TO DO" y acompaña al verbo principal en su forma infinitiva. En las negaciones puede utilizarse la forma contraída de DID NOT o sea DIDN'T. En el cuadro superior se emplea el verbo To Play (Jugar) a modo de ejemplo.

Al expresar una oración en Pasado Simple se entiende que la acción no guarda relación con el presente, como vemos en los siguientes casos:


He lost the keys. Él perdió las llaves.
(Puede que en el presente las haya encontrado).

She lent me a book. Ella me prestó un libro.
(Puede que ya se lo haya devuelto).


También es posible indicar el momento en que se desarrolla la acción para indicar el tiempo con mayor precisión:


They saw the movie last night. Ellos vieron la película anoche.
We went to London yesterday. Nosotros fuimos a Londres ayer.


Para poder formar una oración en tiempo pasado debemos distinguir dos tipos: VERBOS REGULARES y VERBOS IRREGULARES.

En el primero de los casos forman su Pasado Simple añadiendo la terminación ED al infinitivo, mientras que los irregulares reciben ese nombre por no seguir un patrón determinado y en este caso deben estudiarse individualmente.

Presente Progresivo


Se utiliza para describir acciones que se están desarrollando en este mismo momento:

I am reading a book. = Yo estoy leyendo un libro (en este preciso instante)
You are playing football. = Tú estás jugando al futbol


También se utiliza para describir acciones que se están desarrollando alrededor del momento en el que se habla, se mira,aunque no necesariamente en ese preciso instante:

I am studying French. = Yo estoy estudiando francés (me he matriculado en una academia, pero no necesariamente en este preciso momento estoy con los libros de francés)
I am looking my favorite tv show = Estoy viendo my show favorito de television.

Asimismo, se utiliza para describir una acción que va a tener lugar en el futuro próximo y sobre la que se ha tomado una resolución firme. En este caso, siempre se tiene que mencionar el tiempo en el que se va a desarrollar la acción:

I am going to London next week. = Yo voy a Londres la próxima semana (la acción se va a desarrollar en el futuro próximo y existe una decisión firme por mi parte de llevarla a cabo)


Otro uso del presente continuo es para describir acciones que se vienen repitiendo con frecuencia; en este caso, la oración viene acompañada del adverbio "always" (siempre):

He is always working. El está siempre trabajando (con el significado de que trabaja frecuentemente, quizás, incluso, excesivamente)


Formación del "present continuous": se construye con el presente del indicativo del verbo "to be", en su función de verbo auxiliar, y el "present participle" ( = gerundio) del verbo principal.

Asimismo, se utiliza para describir una acción que va a tener lugar en el futuro próximo y sobre la que se ha tomado una resolución firme. En este caso, siempre se tiene que mencionar el tiempo en el que se va a desarrollar la acción:

I am going to London next week. = Yo voy a Londres la próxima semana (la acción se va a desarrollar en el futuro próximo y existe una decisión firme por mi parte de llevarla a cabo)


Otro uso del presente continuo es para describir acciones que se vienen repitiendo con frecuencia; en este caso, la oración viene acompañada del adverbio "always" (siempre):

He is always working. El está siempre trabajando (con el significado de que trabaja frecuentemente, quizás, incluso, excesivamente)


Formación del "present continuous": se construye con el presente del indicativo del verbo "to be", en su función de verbo auxiliar, y el "present participle" ( = gerundio) del verbo principal.
